Jesse McCartney - Leavin'heard the song, saw the video. it's definitely different. gone are the times when jmac was the boy-next-door cutie, blond and well, cute. he left the bangs behind, and the man behind the boy emerges. "you make me want to take you out and let it rain..." let it rain? hmm. that was pretty bold. so was "have you singing all night..." but then again, he's past the age of crushes and holding back. the change is pretty interesting, because this current album, Departure, comes across to me as an in-between. so he's still pretty much in the transition from boy-to-man, and the next album is the one where it's make or break. Beautiful Soul and Right Where You Want Me more or less made him The teenage heartthrob, but Departure signifies the beginning of something more complex, perhaps delicate?that borrowed line "just tell him to the left left left" from Beyonce was cute, but it didn't really quite cut it for me; gave me the shivers instead. "now if i talk it girl, you know that i will walk it out man i put my money (money) where my mouth is)" now this line pretty much sealed the deal. the repetitive beats, echoes gave away the fact that though he was experimenting with different styles, the music was still hovering close to safety.now the video. black, lots of warm colours against a stark white background. one chair, a bed, and a few shots of the interior of a car - twenty first century minimalism. but then again, less is more. remember She's No You? it was in black and white, but still, the appeal was in the fact that the absence of colour cleverly minimised the messy surroundings and non-central-theme people/things. you can never go wrong with minimalism :)"girl we flying on a G5, G5" G5.. if you ask me, i'd say the plane over the car :) planes are always better for flying.
